Have used this small compact card reader for about 3 months now and it's really solid for an inexpensive reader. While the CF slot is short, it's a snug fit with straight in insertion. Short solid hardwired USB cable not suitable for back of a desktop but perfect for a laptop. Best portable CF reader I've used, and I've used a lot.

Thank you for the review. I've been holding off buying one of these. Now I will.

Does this have optional power input? Because if one wants to extend the USB length, then that would be handy.

If you need longer cable, then this Kingston USB 3.0 card reader (external link) will work. I have one sitting on my desk.

It's a bit pricey. I'll wait to see Price drop.

Thanks. But it is always helpful if it has power option. USB cables are known for causing trouble if that is the only power source.

I haven't seen any "portable" card readers that have separate power supply. I've only seen the ones with just the USB cables.

I have one "i-Rocks" that takes the power supply...
I was looking for one more as backup

I see that they do make one with the external power source. Is it your own experience that a card reader with only a USB cable failed on you? Because I've been using the USB cable version of card readers for years now, and never have had any issues at all.

Yes, I would also like to know this. It's not convenient to need a power source for the card reader and having a power cord on something as light as these readers is always a pain since it goes where the power cord goes and even the weight of the cord can drop it to the ground.

Thanks Wallace!
Happy receiving notice from the OP.

I should have checked. amazon.ca carries the unit too. Sorry!
