Hello Guys,

Im making a transition from video to photography and want to know if I can tag along? As it sounds like you guys are getting together to go take some good pics. I have a practice shoot coming up where a couple wants to take some pics with the blossoms so it would really help if I could tag along and shadow you guys. Just to kinda learn from the energy you guys will be giving off hahaha. Don't want to get in the way or be bothersome, but just want to be in the environment with a more professional crowd if possible.

Sure. We're not a closed group. Whenever we decide on going, if you can make it you're welcome to come. Weekdays are best because there won't be quite as large crowds.

You're also, of course, welcome to suggest a date/time. Hope to meet you around the Tidal Basin (a number of us have met there for the first time; I can count 5-6 I met for the first time there and I'd already met about the same number of POTNers other places).

Sounds good, if I were to choose it would definitely be a VERY warm day. LOL. I shot my first engagment session at the National Mall and it was freeZing, couldnt feel my hands!! So to be the most comfortable, I would choose one of the warmest days.

It's DC. Temperatures vary insanely from day to day for three seasons, settling on ghastly hot for the Summer only.

Fireworks locations... anyone know of a good place to set up to shoot the Fireworks? I have seen photos from across the tidal basin, with the Jefferson Memorial in the middle ground, and the fireworks over it to the left.

Is that normally a practical option, are there better places to set up?

As evidenced today by the several inches of snow on the ground when we're a week into spring already, d'oh!

Cherry Blossoms covered in snow? I'll be in the area on Saturday for the Cherry Blossom kite festival (with the family), I'm curious what the buds and blossoms will look like.

I just meant the weather in general for the DC Metro area - we wound up with a few inches on the ground today in Northern VA.

Looks like the weekend should be pleasant for those of you going, so I'm sure the few inches of slush will melt quickly over the next few days.

Yeah we got a few inches (sort of) here just south of the District. It keeps snowing but it is also melting at the same time.

I'll be available next week. It's been cold here in FL, so I can't imagine the blossoms are ready yet. I can make it on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays. My son dropped my Passport bag while I was trying to get stuff out, I heard glass breaking. Inside the bag was my 5D2 with 24-70 face down. I almost cried right there. The B+W filter was cracked, like into a zillion pieces, but I don't know about the lens. I took the 24-70 off and used my 50 1.4 the rest of the day. The camera is fine. Does anyone have a filter stripper I can borrow? The filter got bent, so it won't come off. Thanks.

I have a few sets of filter wrenches; not sure about my availability though; we're preparing to move on the 8th, which means moving a bunch of stuff before then; plus 3 days a week at Garber. Got to photograph some Lindbergh stuff that's been sitting in boxes at Yale since Anne Morrow Lindbergh died. They just passed them on to NASM and the media people want to put out some kind of press release on it.

Anyone going to Kenwood?
