sorry for the title... but that's the sound i hear in my front yard every morning...

can't tell you what it is as i'm trying to find out myself.
searched and heard the sounds of owls in the area... sounds quite different...

i live in a rural area of Northern NJ...

sounds like whoooo whoooo who who... basically 2 long, 2 or 3 short whos...

any idea on what it is?
or where or how i can locate this bird?

thanks in advance...

Al

Mourning Dove...

If these don't sound like it, type in other owls that are known to be in your area. (If you don't know what owls are in your area, Google "New Jersey owls")

How early in the morning? Before the sun comes up or just as it's rising? How "wooded" is the area you live in? This is the time of year for Great-horned Owls to be nesting.

Duane, it's about 7 to 8 in the morning as i go out to warm up the car to take the kids to school...

how wooded... well i live in the suburbs and we have 2 acre zoning her houses so it's not like i'm in the middle of a forest but i do have quite a bit of trees and land between my neighbor and myself.

big trees, old trees...

If he seems to say "who cooks for you" - go with barred owl.

But realistically, I'm betting mourning dove. They're always making that oooooo then higher pitched OOOOOO OOOOO sounds (annoying!!)

Morning = dove. Look on top of your roof. They love to sit there.
Night = owl. By the time the sun comes up they are tucked in.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

I have Band Tailed Pigeons here, they are very large, and tend to gather in the tree tops, and are super shy, don't know if they are in your area! You can hear their Coos really easy.

you're a great friend, but if Zombies chase us, I am tripping you.

I have mourning doves that make noise almost all night here at my house.
I have literally gone outside at night with my camera and a large flashlight to try to get GHOs.
It has never once been a GHO, just Doves.

the sound described in the first post is a Dove to me.

Are you sure its not your neighbors practicing that song by Blur?

Sorry for being a smart ass but I was listening to this song recently and I thought it was funny.

You guys are ID'ing birds by 'reading' its sound?
RESPECT!
