So.... I can't say I've ever jumped on a Microsoft product right after its release, but the Surface Pro looked great on paper, so I gave it a shot. I must say... after a month of using it, I'm impressed. I actually sold both the iPad and the ultrabook. Having just used it on a destination wedding to Mexico, being able to edit some shots on the flight home was awesome. I put a few photos online before the bride even landed. Not saying I couldn't have done it with an ultrabook, but its nice to have something light and with wacom functionality. Brushing with a mouse on an airplane is nearly impossible.

I put a short video on YouTube for those of you interested.

Now all the MS needs is that last fans of Mac.

Thanks for info and also nice presenation. Won't hurt if you talk to lens but then that is my taste.
BTW did the same key for your software (CS) worked for surfacePro?

Enjoy it.

Can you put a version of Excel and Word on it? How much space would that take>

Why would that even be relevant on a photography forum?

The Surface Pro can run anything a regular Windows system runs, because it runs regular Windows.

Yes you can. I'm sure Fig even knew that.

Could be. I know some people have been concerned about how much space is available on the Surface Pro although from what I've seen installing Office shouldn't be a problem space wise, especially if you take the recovery partition off on to a removable USB drive.

You're not going to have tons of space for storing photos on the thing but even after things like Office and Photoshop or Lightroom you would still have at least around a couple dozen gigs free even on the 64GB model.

This is true. My office install takes around 5GB, but that is with the entire suite. I opted for the 128gb version so I could store an entire shoot on it without worrying about space. My original thought was the 64GB with a 32GB or 64GB SD card, but the possibility of losing it... and dealing with external drives wasn't worth the extra $100.

I did not try my CS6 key. I'm running a trial until I have to eventually bite the bullet and figure out how to stomach another license...

I am a Mac user and have been for many years now. I love my iPad and my MacBook Pro, Mac Pro workstations, but I have to say, you really show how the surface is a great device for photographers. I was going to say that I would prefer the MacBook Air (really more comparable than the iPad) with the Air being $130 cheaper and slightly lighter, but they way you showed using PS in the video and that combination of a Laptop/Tablet in one with the ability to install full programs is impressive.

Like I said, I love my iPad and use it a lot, but I do wish Apple would put their full OS on it with the ability to install programs. I would love the ability to run LR or PS on an iPad. It would be a much more powerful tool.

Good on MS and the Surface team. Where it lacks in areas of opinion, like design etc, it makes up for in it's functionality, especially for a traveling photographer. Good purchase.

CS will install on two computers, either 2 Macs or 2 PCs--no crossover.
If you want to install it onto a third computer, make sure you first deregister it from the system you won't use, or it won't install onto the new one.

Thanks for the review... I too, thought the Wacom stylus would be awesome on-screen (I've only played with one of their Cintiq displays.) Surprised its not touted more often... but some closeminded people have such an aversion to the stylus I can (somewhat) see it from a general marketing perspective.

As far as storage, what I've read is the storage issue is a little overblown... Yes you get less than the full 128 or 64... but you also get less than advertised with iPad +no way to increase storage (winpro can add via usb or microsd) + iPad cannot run full-blown applications (simpler OS not DESIGNED to... therfore less storage overhead.)

I should just research this... but am curious if you can install programs to the sd card... and how does that affect performance of apps running from?

I have a Windows 8 Atom tablet, and as far as I know, you can't install to the cards.
Data only.
