I purchased the Surface Pro with 128gb. Installed CS6 and Lightroom 4.3, office 365 home app, and couple more apps and about 119 apps(windows 8 apps), and still have about 75gb available space.

Better to have the extra storage space than not. I can't imagine anyone getting the 64GB version.

The Lenovo does look nice, as their products are usually good build quality, but I expect it will be near the $1,300 mark, which was a bit too much. The $1000 for a Surface Pro was even a bit steep, but felt it adequately priced.

Which Lenovo are you talking about?

Thanks for posting this as it sheds some light. It's pretty impressive that Photoshop CS6, Lightroom and all of your apps and data are only taking up 14GB (the Surface Pro only has 89GB available after taking into account space required for Win 8 and built in apps).

Also, did you continue with using Office via cloud (Office 365) after the one month trial? Just wondering how you like it versus Office Professional 2013.

No, I paid $79 for the one year via Office 365, which I could install up to 5 PCs.

Keep in mind that Office 365 and Office Professional 2013 are the same product, the difference is how you purchase them.

Office Pro 2013: This is the version of Office that you purchase physical media for and you own forever. If you ever want to upgrade you need purchase the next version of Office all over again once it's released.

Office 365: You purchase Office on a subscription basis, you can install Office on 5 devices, and the version of Office that you own is continually updated so you always have access to the latest and greatest. Also comes with SkyDrive storage. (if you're a business you can optionally purchase hosted Exchange, SharePoint, and Lync services in your O365 subscription as well).

I thought I read that even Office Pro 2013 requires you to download the software? What you buy at the store just contain the CD-Key.

As for Office 365, from my understanding of things, it's cloud base and requires an internet connection to work.

I'm seriously thinking of buying the Surface Pro myself. Can you comment a bit more on using Lightroom on the tablet? Obviously it won't be practical to use fingers on it. I already have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. When I'm in the hotel room, then I'll edit. Otherwise, I'll be using the Metro interface on the plane/train.

That may be. But my point is that it's a perpetual license, meaning that you own it forever and it will never expire. Just like all previous versions of Office.

That is incorrect. The Office application that you install on your computer is the exact same Office Pro 2013 application that you can buy from Best Buy, Staples, etc. The only difference is how you purchase it. (Buying a subscription Vs buying a perpetual license)

Having said that, once you install Office on your computer is does need to contact the Office 365 servers periodically to ensure you still have an active subscription. I believe it's a bare minimum of connecting to the Internet once every 30 days but I could be wrong.

Adobe Creative Cloud uses the same concept. You're not running Photoshop or Lightroom in a browser, you're simply purchasing the software via a subscription mechanism and you need to keep your subscription active in order for your software to continue to work.

Its actually pretty smooth. My main work station (i7 8GB) is on a 30" 2560x1600 monitor, and the Surface Pro with a 1080p display is on par with it when building previews. Editing wise, you won't notice any hickups. I've brushed a handful of photos using the pen and am really wishing my 30" had that ability now. Its just speeds up the process that much more.

As for tablet functionality in Lightroom, it really doesn't work with a finger only. While you can increase the magnification of the Windows UI, it doesn't reflect on CS6 products. Its simply too small to use with your finger, but the pen makes it more than manageable. You also won't get any swipe, pinch-zoom functionality in Lightroom either. Maybe Adobe will build this into it in the future, but to be honest, its not that important right now.

Do you happen to have Office 365? I'm not doubting the fact that Office 365 is a subscription base service and Office 2013 is a perpetual license base software. I'm pretty sure that's already a given and most people should know that. I haven't used Office 365 so I'm not 100% sure if it's cloud base or that I'm actually downloading the software in which I can use it offline. From what I read, Office 365 also contain some technology where you can start using the software even though it haven't fully downloaded to the computer.
