I agree: sell the 18-200 and 50/1.8 and buy that Tamron 17-50.

The 18-200 isn't sharp enough to be my first choice. It would be fine if the primary user is a person who wants a super zoom point and shoot, but, aside from the focal length and how close it can focus, I don't care for it.

Not sharp enough?

I don't think so...

Now if you need an excuse to buy new gear... that's another story...:D

Nice images. You use your gear well. What was the EXIF for those shots?

When I tested my friend's copy for my purposes, I didn't care for it. Wide open on the short end and near wide open on the long end, it wasn't sharp enough compared to what I like to use. I would have to adjust to its strengths more than I would have liked.

The 18-200 and 50 f/1.8 duo is what I lend to folks who want to try out new lenses or SLRs in general. They're a great step up from a P&S/bridge or the kit lens. I have a warm spot in my heart for either of those lenses.

MakisM1's photos show that the superzoom doesn't have to be limiting at all. Impressive.

For the OP, I haven't used the Tamrons so no opinion on them. I have used the Canon 17-55. That lens is pricey but it's very good. http://www.the-digital-picture.com …8-IS-USM-Lens-Review.aspx (external link) has a thorough review of that lens. But it is pricey. If it's any consolation, it holds its resale value well. With future crop bodies coming out, I think the 17-55 will get a resurgence in popularity.

Okay. Thank you to everyone for your input!

I think I will end up going with the tamron 2 lens combo :D. My only 2 final questions are:

2. My only other concern is the fact it is not a good lens (wont really work) on full frame cameras. If I do choose to go full frame, do these Tamron lenses hold their value fairly well?

The Tamron 17-50mm holds it resale value very well and of course the 70-300mm is a full frame lens.

6D, 5D, 7Dii, Eos R and too many lenses, flashes and aux. gear to list!

The Exif is intact for the girl's shot and the crop.

The lens comparison was f8, 1/1250 ISO 400

Ah. Looks like I can't see it at work. Must look again at home.

To be perfectly honest, I think I've recommended the 18-200 successfully to four people I know. You use it well (i.e., knowing when to stop down; use hyperfocal distance vs. focusing at your subject; subject in center and crop, keep sensor plane perfectly vertical for wide angle shots; use the lens' best combinations of focal length, subject distance & aperature; etc.) you can get really nice results. *Or* if you aren't skillful or careful, but, you enjoy your images as 4"x6" to 8.5"x11" prints or something else that's realistic, this lens still works out fine.
