Epitome of stupidity, is what I call this. Bull moose in full rut and a photographer standing in front of him. Granted, I shot this with a 400mm lens which throws the perspective off a bit, but still not real smart. Comments always welcomed and respected.

Even not being at the "business" end of the thing I'm not sure 400 was long enough :D; and that guy out front was definitely in the wrong spot...

Hell of a moose you got there, though, Al! :)

Stupid is as Stupid does, some people have to have a moose tromp then in order to respect the space.

If a moose face turns up in the "Are You Looking at Me?" thread, with a distant photographer in the background, you'll know who the clueless guy is.

Maybe he is just brave and wants to get the best shot...bet he got it and never died. Good initiative.

Not brave, stupid, even if he does get a great shot.

That would be funny! Nice shot.

This is an excellent shot, great title. Some people just feel bullet proof and have to learn the hard way. He is also a good example of why I have to carry so much liability insurance on my farms.

I actually think the photographer in the background had the right idea. The image I usually want is one where the subject is facing me, either head-on or quartering toward me.

It looks like that photographer had a fairly good opening to work with, hopefully he was able to work around the little bit of vegetation that was in his way and get a nice, clean shot.

Your photo works real nicely, Al, as the moose turned back enough so that you got a nice look at his eye - which really makes the image!

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Now that a few have viewed this image and expressed their opinions, let me tell you the whole story. I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time when a moose fight broke out. I filmed the whole event and have shots of the winner after the fight just laying down resting, photographically not to interesting. But, then I saw this vanquished bull wandering off probably to rest or just find a place to die. Hate to be so blunt about it but he had been gored in his right side rib cage area and the chances for recovery from an 18 inch horn /tine penetration to that area are slim to none. Infection usually sets in pretty quickly and the animal really doesn't survive very long. I was accompanied on this shoot by a photographer/wildlife biologist who informed me and also lives in the area. The question here is would you put your life on the line for a frontal shot, knowing this animal is mortally wounded?

Thanks for the comments, Eric. The 400 put me at about 50 yards and I had plenty of cover.

Thanks for the comments, OhLook. The only clueless guy here was the one shooting from the front with no cover at about 15 yards.
