So I just got my brand new YN560 II in the mail today. I put in a fresh set of batteries, turn it on, wait for a red pilot light, press the pilot button.....and nothing. Am I missing something?

One of mine is an absolute pig to fire because the contact is set so deep - I can do it, but I have to press with thumbnail which is rather annoying (it feels as though I'm pressing the button right through and out of the front). Maybe this is your problem? Phil ǁ Kershaw Soho Reflex: 4¼" Ross Xpres, 6½" Aldis, Super XX/ABC Pyro in 24 DDS, HP3/Meritol Metol in RFH, Johnson 'Scales' brand flash powder. Kodak Duo Six-20/Verichrome Pan. Other odd bits over the decades, simply to get the job done - not merely to polish and brag about cos I'm too mean to buy the polish!

I've accepted it as part of the price you don't pay. I think I'm going to have to do the same. I tried it out with my RF-603s before leaving for work and it worked like a charm! I was a little worried that my $57 (total cost including shipping) ebay purchase was a dud. Even though it's brand new I knew it would be out of any warranty if it was a dud. I'm planning on picking up 1 more as a spare as well. A Canon 540EZ and 2 YN 560II's should be a decent speedlight set up I think. Once I pull the trigger on an AB1600 I think my "portable" lighting setup will be complete. Body: Canon 5DmkII│Canon M50

I was originally out for a simple 560 since the LCD screens get a little difficult to see when a flash is up high and angled downward but I just couldn't pass on the price of the 560II that I found. It was flat out luck- it was listed on ebay about 3 minutes before I snatched it up. I see them brand new on amazon and ebay for around $75, which in and of itself isn't bad but I snatched mine up brand new for $57 (shipped). Good deal if you ask me, I couldn't pass it up.
