So I'm planning on buying a 1DX sometime soon, thus I do the normal thing and check out the prices available from every source possible, and for the longest while, prices in the USA were always the cheapest out of anywhere. In Russia electronics are 25% more expensive on average, but not anymore it seems, at least not for Canon cameras.

The local price for a 1DX works out to be $6,200 at a realistic exchange rate, less than most US stores short of eBay. 5D3 is $2,800, which too is a bit less than American retailers.

I do wonder why this is so... is it because prices in America are up, or are the prices here down? Either way, this will be the first time I will actually buy a camera here, rather than at Adorama or B&H while in NYC.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

In the case of the Sterling vs the Dollar, its def worth purchasing in the UK at the most as the exchange rate is poor. But in the case of the 1DX if you purchase from the USA, you will not get world-wide warranty, only USA warranty cover.

Buying a 1DX is a warranty in and of itself :)
