I've been looking at this tripod ever since I got a 5d2. I just want any feedback on using this tripod with, say, the 5d2 and 24-70L. Will it be sturdy? I'm thinking of pairing it with the 496rc2 ball head (not the 498 because I don't really care about panning). Also I will be using it mostly indoors, or a flat surface like pavement, for portraits or a few landscapes. I don't plan to do any hiking or anything extreme here!

If I'm TOTALLY missing the mark here, what would YOU recommend?

Thanks!

Emily,

I just got my 5d2 a few weeks ago. Sadly life has not given me but one chance to shoot with it so far. When I did I used my 70-200 on it. While I do not have the 190x, I have an off brand that is build practically the same. I have the older version of the 498... works like a charm. I would assume the 496 would be no different. Yes I have considered getting a new tripod combo that is much sturdier, but my reasoning would be when it is windy outside to help keep it sturdy (and taller legs)... you shouldnt have any issues with it :)!

I have the same tripod with a 488RC2 and it's plenty sturdy with my gripped 5D and all my lenses. I see them used all the time at great prices. I don't know if you plan on using the horizontal adjustment feature or not but I really like it for macro flower shots.

Where can I find a used one? Or did you mean here?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help! I'm sure there are tons of better/sturdier tripods but I can't break the bank yet! Plus I will be using it pretty sparingly...not often at all.

Check ebay for used. Sometimes you can get a good deal. Amazon has them new for about $120.
