24-70L repair estimate?

Thinking about sending my 24-70 f/2.8L (original, not mk2) in for repair. I know they provide an estimate when you send it in, but I was hoping to get some people's experiences first.

Two problems:
1) The zoom ring is limited in rotation such that I cannot reach 24mm and 70mm, making this lens more like a 26-64mm. This is evidenced both by the markings on the zoom ring and by the focal lengths in my EXIFs. Additionally, the zoom ring has some extra resistance around 35mm. Noticed this problem a bit after taking the camera up on Mist Trail in Yosemite, which was a couple years ago.

2) The front filter thread is a bit bent from a drop, preventing me from mounting my circular polarizer properly.

Has anyone had these repairs done before? If so I'd love to hear what price you paid to get it fixed. Thanks :D

The minimum non-CPS repair quote will be for around $250. I just recently went through a 24-70L repair. Mine had issues where the one side of the frame would be OOF as compared to the other side, and it was because the lens, when mounted would separate near the rear ring on one side. They replaced some washers and adjusted the lens for $283 total, and I was quoted a minimum fee of $250-ish before they even had a chance to see it.

Wow, that's pretty expensive for what is seemingly an easy-on-their-part fix. I'm thinking the 1st problem I listed is probably more involved of a fix, since it'd prob involve taking the lens apart to get to the zoom mechanism.

Focus issues will run you $250 to $350 on a 24-70 at CPS. I sent one in last year.

thanks for the reply pdrober2

Just to set things straight, though: I'm not having focus issues. The lens focuses just fine, but I cannot reach 24mm and I cannot reach 70mm. The zoom ring just won't twist to reach either of them. It's more like a 26-66mm.

Do repairs tend to be cheaper for CPS?

Generally, there is a minimum payment which covers a lot of problems. Best way to get an estimate is to send it into Canon...

I received an estimate for $360 to repair my bent filter threads. With tax, parts and shipping, I'm looking at almost $440 dollars. So much for making a good profit on this lens.
