Hi,

I often see in FS ads here the claim that there is "warrantee left" on a Canon body or lens, often right in the title. As far as I know, all Canon camera/lens warrantees are non-transferable.

Every time I have gone in to the Canon Repair Center @ Irvine for warrantee work , they have always asked for my receipt and do not even care to see that red/black warrantee card that is included with their products. Then they match the name on the receipt. If it is not me, they will deny my warrantee claim.

I just don't want people who do not know Canon's policies to think they are getting some kind of warrantee with an item purchased here, because they will not.

Now I understand that there are probably tactics for getting Canon to do the work despite not having the receipt in your name, but that's basically cheating. It would be as if the seller is stating there is "warrantee left" on the condition the buyer cheats.

Can we simply make it a rule that one cannot state that in their ad? Or put up a sticky saying there is no such thing as warrantee on used Canon items?

Thanks.

No, it is not the business of POTN to interpret warranties.

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.
I have a Cannon with me at all times. You can't take the shot if you don't have something with which to shoot.

No!

First of all because of what Skip said. Second because the warranty rules are different in each country. In Denmark it is not a problem (and no Canon cannot overrule general warrenty laws in Denmark). The warrenty follows the product not the person purchasing it.
