The NHL has lots of tough rules about long lenses. Oh well. This is the best that I could do under the lights in the ACC.

I was shooting from a private box. Lucky for me. Nobody was in front and I even had a ledge to rest my elbows on.

What lens did they allow you to take in? I attend many AHL games where they aren't too picky, but we're heading to a couple Caps games and I was hoping to take my Sigma 70-200 2.8

The rules are determined by the sport not the arena. Go to NHL.com and you will find that lens 70mm and less are ok. The NBA is much more lenient anything goes except flashes.

read my other post but I would still take the large lens in. The worst they can do is make you check it. Have a smaller lens in case you need back-up.

Hi Ron,

I like the second one, but it looks like you could overexpose by at least 2/3rds of a stop. It would make the ice whiter and stand out more.

I like the pose in the first shot. I get the sense that the player is relieved to be getting off of, or onto, the ice.

I don't know if the colors of the first one really do anything for me, though. Everything seems too washed out for my tastes, and I have a hard time picking out what colors are supposed to be white. But you can take that with a big grain of salt - I personally go for very bold colors in my sports shots.

It also depends on the guy who checks you. Some don't care some do. I've gotten my 75-300 in tons of times and few times told I couldn't bring it in.

I might warm up the color temp and adjust the WB on the first one...it is kinda washed out. And it is awfully hard to sneak in a big white "L" lens...I can usually get my 70-300 IS in if I put it in my coat pocket...lol

Getting out of photography for now...

I had no trouble getting my 70-200 f/2.8 L IS into a Wild game a few weeks back. I guess the guy who checked me in didn't really care.
