Curious if anyone has successfully sold any prints on Craigslist or ebay? If so, what did you sell and at what prices and which site?

I recently listed a 32" X 48" canvas on Craigslist with no bites at this time. Thankfully I do not rely on photography for income and the print is doing well on the living room wall :p

Not sure about your questions but I love that middle print.

Thats not really a prime market for fine art. You would be better served by trying gallery/frame shops and perhaps art fairs.

I had a buddy of mine try this....no bites as well. He eventually moved to a personal website plus an art fair booth.

It doesn't matter how big your camera is, it's how you use it!

If you don't price it to sell, you won't have any "bites".
I sold prints on eBay years ago. I listed 8x10" prints for 5 or 6 dollars each. I printed them myself with my standard inkjet printer and photo paper I bought on clearance. Sold a few dozen photos this way - enough to keep me in coffee for a couple months, but that's abut it.
I tried to sell much better stuff at larger sizes, but nobody ever bought any of that. And I don't think they ever would.
Keep in mind this was about 10 years ago, when there weren't nearly as many digital pictures available "for free" on the internet. These days, if someone just wants a little print of something like that I think they just steal it off of someone's Flickr, or Facebook.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

There are some poepl on eBay who are having success selling their prints, but those peoplestill don't sell most of what they put up. Example (external link).

More money is being made by selling very cheaply, as posters, and that's very cutthroat. Example (external link). I'm certainly not going to be selling a 2 by 4 foot print of anything I do for 35 bucks, so I wish them all the best.

Craig,
Actually, I think you'd have trouble selling it at that price point. $15 to $20 and you will sell a decent volume. Try to get $35, like they are, and you will only sell them occasionally.

It's true it still takes them a while to sell, but they've sold a fair number. I think selling every single thing you put up is just a pipe dream. It takes a lot of posting to make a photography sale, no matter who you are.

While I stand to be corrected, I think that is the Mouton Barn from JH, WY. Regardless of where it is, I agree it is awesome looking.

I've been wondering the same thing, but scanning through ebay I found little and even less with bids on it. I'd suggest local galleries or maybe something like coffee shops etc. I might try an art fair sometime, but even there I'm not sure. I'd like to offer large prints on metal or canvas and they'd have to sell for a couple hundred to make it worth my time and up front investment in the prints.

Also maybe if there's a local museum or state park etc, you could see about having an exhibition there?

Something else I've been considering is a calendar with images of my area here.

I honestly think that, in general, the days of selling what we photographers would call "prints" are over. Most people aren't able to see the value of such an item. They're fine with a cheap poster that looks almost the same.

In order to sell, your product has to be different, either in vision or physical manifestation, from what other people are offering.

Right now there are over 14,000 photographic offerings on eBay alone that are direct from the artist. There are 13,000 that have actually sold, but that's since September. That may seem like a lot, until you see the prices people are getting, and what's selling, which is mostly snapshots (for a penny) and polaroid softcore porn (sorry, nudes) for a couple of bucks.

If you limit it to photographic work that's sold for over $100, then you get 71 sold listings for the same time period. That ain't much, and most of those are Craig Bill and Dermot O'Kane.
