Ok, I really don't want to start another 6D vs CameraX thread, but here is my situation.

I am an amateur photographer who shoots mostly sports and then some other general photography. Say about a 70/30 split. I have used the 7D for a long time and it works well for me. It's my main camera at a game usually.

I recently picked up a 5dm2 because of the price drops. It has better high ISO, and i like the full frame look on things other than sports.. My issue of course is that it's somewhat slow, and the AF is lacking. I'll usually use this at games with a wider lens on it or my 24-105 to catch some candid shots.

Based on what I can sell the 7D for along with some accessories and what the 6D is going for right now it wouldn't be a huge jump in cost to step up.

What I'm hoping the 6D buys me is slightly better AF. I know it only has 11 AF points, but I'm using the center anyway (lack of joystick isn't an issue). For my non sports shooting it also gets me better low light AF and performance.

Uses same batteries as my 7D, of course I'll have to deal with SD instead of CF. Lack of 1/8000 isn't an issue for me.

Anyone else make this switch in a situation similar to mine? I should also state that the 5dm3 is currently out of my price range and I like having 2 camera bodies so selling the 7D and 5dm2 for a 5dm3 isn't an option.

Thanks

I think you'd be better off selling the 5D MkII to buy the 6D. Keep the 7D for sports. Having a 5D MkII and a 6D is basically like having two of the same type of camera (aside from a few improvements). You'll get more for the MkII anyway, so that will make the price jump even less significant.

Sorry, if it wasn't clear, yes I meant to sell the 5dm2.

look into a used 1d3 or 1d4, I think it should be better if you don't mind the weight.

I have looked into the 1d4. I think if all I shot was sports, that may be the way to go, but I do like the perspective that the full frame on the 5Dm2 gives me which is why I want to stick with full frame.

I see, so if you want FF, it will be 6d if you ask me given the diff between a used 5d2 and 6d is not much. Not to mention you have to take the risk of finding a low shutter count hassle free one.
