5D Mark II vignetting w/16-35L

I borrowed this camera to get a feel for it. I was really surprised to see the strong vignetting at 16mm with the lens hood on properly & fastened securly. The attached images are straight out of the camera. Using lens correction in Lightroom doesn't get rid of the vignetting.

I'm used to shooting with a 7D so I'm not used to getting 16mm with my wide angle shots. Is this vignetting normal with the 5D or am I doing something wrong. I've seen such cool wide angle shots online without vignetting or a significant distortion. The person in the image on the left is really distorted.

I'd say you are doing something wrong, but I can't tell what without "hands-on stuff".

The vignetting is way off. I'm not sure about the distortion -- sure you get some vertical distortion which is easily corrected, but I don't know about the guy in your pic. You may have just shot way too close...?

You sure the lens hood is on correctly?

Looks like the hood is showing, 16mm is WIDE!

as for distortion, at the edges of the frame and close to the camera, that's just what happens with wide angles. You'll just have to learn how to compose to avoid it

I like the distortion effects it gives me on my wide angled shots

Thanks everyone for your input. I was texting the lady who owns the camera for advice on what I'm doing wrong. I realized as I was typing what I was doing wrong & I could have kicked myself in the head. I had put my polarizing lens on for outdoor shooting yesterday and I know good & well not to use a polarizer on my 16-35! Just took it off & the problem is resolved.

The 16-35 is in need of an extra thin polarizing filter, so I recommend one that doesn't have threads on the outside.
