Brickworld is an unique celebration of the world-famous Lego block system. Exceptional work and imagination went into the creation of the displays of real and fantasy worlds. While the construction effort came from adults (some who wore Isaac Asimov and Dr. Who shirts), much of the audience were children who crowded close to the objects in total wonderment.

One of the decisions to be made on photo coverage of an event such as this is whether to concentrate on the constructions or to emphasize the audience's reaction to the displays. There were so many delighted people in the crowd who were staring in wonderment that it was tempting to line up more reaction shots. Finally, I chose to let the reactions play themselves out in the backgrounds of the images as they happened.

On the level at which these enthusiasts operate, Lego blocks and components are far more than toys; they're precision objects manipulated by skilled artisans. Just the time to design and assemble these objects goes beyond what most people would ever attempt.
