Hey guys just a couple of shots from Africa that I wanted to get your opinions on, sorry no surf shots was more of a Safari holiday. Most shot with the 5dIII and the 70-200 2.8 II + 2x III converter which i found a really good combination for what i want, might make a review. Sorry for large number of files

Your landscape images have strong elements, they are interesting, sharp and well exposed, but could be better with a little cropping. The lightening shot is wonderful as is. A little less sky in the Desert Plains would be good. Seapoint pools is beautiful as well but again the balance makes it less interesting. You can take out half the sky to make the composition more compelling.

I've noticed that all of your wildlife shots are centered. I think it works well on the zebras and seals, not so much on the elephant (your weakest shot) and hippo. If you cropped out half of the negative space to the left of the hippo it would be stronger and lend some animation. Some of the out of focus foreground should be cropped as well as it is distracting. Essentially you are too far away from the hippo as subject to start with.

thanks guys really appreciate the comments. aboudd thanks for taking the time to go into more depth, i thrive off stuff like this, seeing how i can improve my shots. I will focus on my composition a bit more and see if some cropping will make the images more appealing.

yeh you are right the wildlife shots do seem rather centered, i will try and fix some of those in future as well. I had a 400mm on the 5d which is definitely not long enough for frame filling wildlife shots, trust me i couldn't have safely got any closer to that hippo, there was a school of about 20 around the tiny dug out canoes we were in, and being the most territorial animal in Africa i wasn't about to go pushing into the middle of that!

Cheers again and if you would like to see some more shots head over to my flickr page

Beautiful work!
I see you were in Etosha, isn't it a miraculous place?

Love your landscapes. I was so busy with wildlife, I failed pretty miserably at capturing the surroundings.

Well done!

Those are amazing. Really, really great set. The texture on the elephant's skin, the sky and tree in that shot, all of them were really terrific. Thanks for sharing them, as I've always wanted to go to Africa and haven't gotten around to it yet.

Fantastic series! Well done!

thank you all so much, really appreciate the comments. etosha truly is a marvellous place, we only spent 3 days there but i think given a week there and a private safari car you would see everything! i really enjoy chobe national park as well, so many elephants and that is where we saw the elusive leopard to complete the BIG 5 which i was happy about. Cheers about the landscape comment, im finding my photography moving more towards that area, but i still love my sport shots (im predominantly a surf photographer from the water).

Couple more if you're interested. Cheers guys
