We've got Canon gear all over the place here. My personal cameras are 7D and S95.

Need to buy a gift camera - this user will leave it on auto forever. No advanced features will ever be used. Moderate optical zoom is fine. Will be used for snapping pix of family and friends at parties, around the house, and at outdoor gatherings. Any suggestions from the Canon line? Or possibly another brand?

Should NOT be a super compact, needs to be large enough that large hands can hold it comfortably. This one does not need to fit into shirt pocket etc.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Powershot A1400 - runs on AA cells (though NiMH rechargeables will be best) and is (FF equiv) 28-140 mm zoom range.

That one looks like a good fit and great deal. Thanks, Jon!
