Ok, I downloaded your pictures and it's a couple of megs. I can't reupload it because it says it's too big. How did you manage to upload such a big file ??

Ok, I just uploaded it as big as it would let me. Not big enough for you to save, but big enough for you to see hopefully. Check your PM. You can email me and I'll email the full size file.

Dear Tom,

The OP did not upload his image to the forum (POTN) - he hosted it at another web site and then just inserted a link to that URL using the tool in the advanced toolbar that looks like a landscape.

The image that was hosted by the OP at his web site was not really 2 megs - it was actually only about 256 kB, but that is way too big for posting on POTN. The guidelines here are 100 kB for JPG.

I tried a diferent direction, going for the "Exposure" Control on PSCS2 which I always thought could be a "life saver" on the very odd ocasion I accidentaly had shot in JPEG. Still hadn't tried it though.
Much for my surprise, I learned that the image was really underexposed.
I had to push the exposure to 0.6 and play a bit with the off-set and gamma.

Afterwards I still had to adjust levels, correct the shadows and apply a bit of contrast with levels adjustments by burning and dodging, just a bit. I didn't need to mess with the saturation.

Apllyied local sharpening to the firemen in the center and then overall shapening. Resized, sharpened and that's it.
I don't know if it is any better then the attempts already made by the others. Just a different way to do it, maybe.

Also thought B&W could save the image further more.
I hope this helps.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the info. I right clicked on the image and downloaded it. When I opened it up in photoshop, it was a 2.57 meg file. I was really surprised. That's why I asked. I've never really understood how you can have an image that is 246kb and then open it in photoshop and it's actual size then is 257M. Is it because it uncompresses it ? That's what I have always thought anyway.

Thanks,
Tom

I'm not sure from where in Photoshop you are getting a report of it being 2.57 MB. It is never that size unless you are seeing a hypothetical value for the size of the virtual image, which is about 774 pixels x 1160 pixels times 3 bytes per pixel - that would come to about 2.5 or 2.6 MB, but the JPG compression mashes it down to a tenth of that, so it is never that big as a disk file, unless stored as TIF.

late to the party but what the hey. there's nothing else to do while the Broncos v Pats game is on :)

Multiply full image twice, upper 1/3 once, sharpen, and color balance.

Maybe it won't suck too bad

I hope I've done this right as far as uploading my attempt at a fix. I darkened and worked on the contrast, mainly. Then I sharpened it up. Finally I tried to get rid of the haze by using the burn tool over the upper half of the photo. If the picture doesn't appear in my post it's 'cuz I don't know how to upload images in this forum.
