This was the last of the "regular season" for me, still have conference Championships and NCAA Regionals as far as college goes for the year. With that in mind and it being U of I's Senior night, and the 3 teams going at once I decided to focus on the events with the most success this season in hopes of really nailing them. I also didn't do the photo selection of which ones from the gallery to share, but deferred that to my resident retired gymnast, to have her pick out the best images gymnastics wise.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to keep the spot I wanted for beam so the backgrounds ended up more cluttered than I wanted. I tried to make the best of the hand I was dealt and not have it affect the results. I did tend to go one prime lens wider than I would have selected for most of the situations during the meet, then crop them down to the FOV I wanted to try and minimize the bad framing issues I had with last weeks photo, which had the trade off of the DOF and Bokeh (wouldn't a 1DX just solve so many things, between FOV and ISO performance and more fps lol). That's one thing that I think there is going to be no substitute for, and I just need to be putting in the time to get the right framing with the tighter lenses. I also did some minor dodging and burning to try and overcome the flat light issues; and for whatever reason even with a custom WB the white balance was all over the place this week much more so than in the past so there were a lot of more minor adjustments made in that regard, and there's times i wish the background had a grey card hiding in plain sight.
Feed is welcome as always, and much appreciated; I am taking and applying it to my next time out and looking back on the start of the season would like to think I've made improvement. I'm certainly very far from where I was at a year ago.
