Thats true. The OP said he's pretty happy with his kit and he uses the 105 often, happily. I was just asking because I wanted to see if he wanted to upgrade because he actually had a need to upgrade, or if he was just for the sake of upgrading.

Haha nowadays with modern gears, I would assume very few people NEED to upgrade. ;)

Yes, I am pretty happy with my 24-105 for sure and it is one of my most used lens.
with that said, I wouldn't mind the benefit of improved optics and an updated IS technology.

Please, don't get me wrong...I am looking for an "upgrade" BECAUSE I am so pleased with this lens. There are small tweaks that I would appreciate. I mean, if there isn't an upgrade...it isn't like I am going to cry... :) And even if I end up getting a 24-70 f2.8 or the mythical 24-70 f2.8 IS I doubt that I would get rid of the 24-105!

And on top of it, I was just asking to see if there was any ideas floating around.

So, JAcosta's question is indeed a valid point. I would love small tweaks and the distortion at 24mm is more in the side of "need" as well as "nice to have". The IS - is only "nice to have" and I have yet to hear of too many photographers who would turn down their favorite lens with an optical upgrade! :)

For what it's worth, I was in bestbuy today, and noticed a really nice price on the 24-105. I asked the clerk why it was so low. His 1st word was "discontinued" the look of shock on my face caused him to correct himself, he said " at the very least bestbuy won't be carrying the 24-105 anymore".

So, discontinued, or not at bestbuy? Who knows.
