I've started a couple of threads recently asking for advice regarding another body and my next lens purchases.

This should hopefully be it....fingers crossed.

I'm in the lucky position where I have about £7k (not sure what that is in US$) to add to my gear. I shall keeping the gear in my sig.

I like a bit of everything, landscapes, motorsports (classic racing, motogp, superbikes) and I pent most of last summer hunting an owl that I managed to get a few decent captures of.

My choices are as follows......

Option 1. 1DX, 200 2.8, 300 F4, 400 5.6 and a 1.4 iii

Option 2. 1D4, 200 2.8, 300 2.8 version i, 1.4 iii and a 2 iii

Option 2 gives me the nicer lens, option 1 gives me more flexibility and the 1DX.

Is the 1DX a bigger leap over the 4 to make up for the lack of 300 2.8?

I used to have a 1D2N and an original 1DS so I do like my big bodies......but would it be worth also looking at a 7D?

Sorry for the long, question filled post!

I was looking at the 7D, I now shoot with a 50D, and would like faster focus, and can mix Canon EF, and EF-S and of course Canon "L" lenses. But, rumor has it Canon is going to come out with a 7D II during the Summer or early Fall. I plan on waiting to see how this camera will arrive. Pricing, and features are my concerns. I'm sure if the 7D II has some of the newer features like wireless and other type of useful features I'll buy it. If the new camera does come out, Canon will drop the price of the 7D.

You lens line-up sounds pretty good, I would not add any more expensive L glass for now. Maybe a 40mm STM pancake, or a 100mm 2.8L USM macro. (takes great portraits, and good for macro)

New Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, Canon EOS 7D Mark II, Canon EOS 50D, Canon 7D Classic, Canon 6D, Canon EF 70-200 f4L USM with IS, Canon 40mm pancake, Canon EF 50mm 1.8, Canon EF-S 10-22mm wide angle, Canon EF-S 18-135 IS STM, Canon EF 100mm 2.8L USM Macro, Tamron 18-270mm Dii VC, Tamron SP 150-600mm VC, Tamron SP 24-70mm f2.8 VC USM, Canon EF 16-35 f2.8L II USM, Tamron 2X Tele-Extender, 1.4 Tele-extender

My lens up is quite limiting at the moment (for what I want anyway) I used to have a 100-400 and a 200 2.8. I've lost my length and low light options and want them back.

Going for a 7D (even a 1D3) would be good in some ways as it would allow me to get a 300 2.8 plus a 400 DO. Too many decisions!

Option 2. 1DX and 1D mark IV are both great sports bodies. So your choice of lens makes the biggest difference. The 300mm 2.8 provides for both better subject isolation and shutter speeds and lower ISOs.
Also note that both cameras have AF points with a higher sensitivity mode for 2.8 lenses, as does the 7D.
I'd say go for the cheaper bodies and get the better lenses, if you're doing action shooing you want 2.8 glass.

Specially on sport but actually on everything, 300 f2.8 is totally unique.
I would not sacrifice it and go #2.

Option 2 is what I'm leaning towards.
I just wanted to know if the X is a stellar jump over the 4, at a push I could an X and a 300, but that would be it.
