i used big black bag at one point, i have nothing but good things to say, i wasn't willing to pay for what i required and opted to go hosting my own site.

i missed the trial period cancellations and they still refunded my money so their customer service very good. i even offered to pay a prorated amount and they declined.

smug mug is another, but i found it maddening to get a something that looked good. very customizable, but i figure if i was going that that route i may as well make my own html site there are lots out there. even wordpress is an option for an easy site.

word of advice, buy the domain yourself from somewhere reputable place like godaddy, some hosting places have in the fine print that you lease the name from them and dont own own it. so if you cancel they still own your site name.

I think Zenfolio is tough to beat. For the price Smugmug comes in the closest.

I have also been playing around with Wordpress, NextGen, and FotoMoto together as a self hosted solution.

That's what I did. :D

FWIW, I also have a Smugmug account (it was given to me). It's kind of having another basket of eggs to pick from...so to speak.

I've been very pleased with Zenfolio, they've always been extremely helpful when I wanted advise or assistance.
