the only way is to allow others to tag your photos and then they actually do it

You can only tag people whom you're friends with via your personal page. I always thought it would be nice if you could tag fans of a business page in photos posted on the business page, but facebook doesn't allow it. What I'll sometimes do is send the client an email with a link to the facebook gallery and say something like "Hey, here are some preview images from your session/wedding/whatever, feel free to tag yourself or your friends if you want the pictures to show up on your/their page." Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. A couple people have saved the images onto their computer, then reposted them on their personal page - so there's no link back to my website or business page, which is annoying. Bonus points if they pass the photos through an Instagram-style filter, crop out my watermark, then repost the image...vmad

Yeah I did some shots of a girl in the snow. Since I didnt want to friend her I let her have some low res shots for facebook. I took great care to get a nice white balance in the snow and some delicate work to expose her white outfit against the snow and still retain some detail in the various shades of white. I later saw them on her facebook. She ran them through some sort of piss yellow tint filter...... You cant win.

would that be a bonus in this case? that way her crappy edits aren't tied to you.

The problem generally is if you don't tag, then no one will. You need die hard facebook fans that will tag themselves. Then it turns into a beauty contest competition amongst their girlfriends. OMG you look so pretty! Blah blah~!

I have zero activity on my personal page, so that helps with tagging I suppose. If I didn't have a business page, I simply wouldn't even use facebook.

I vaguely remember seeing something pop up on Facebook around Christmas time saying I could tag friends of friends on my Fan Page. I have yet to actually get this to work!

I've been able to do it a little bit. The last collection I put up, I tried it on a whim and all I had to do was type in that person's name and it popped up, so I was able to tag a couple and get a little more traffic that way.

Another thing that I discovered the last few days is that you can tag fan pages if you like them. All you have to do is type "@" and then the name of the fan page and it will pop up. Got a little more traffic doing that also.

I think it also depends on the persons' privacy settings for their FB account. I've run into that in the past, so I just ask them to tag themselves on the photos/album

I think you're right - I just checked, and I actually am able to tag some people and pages in photos (even those I'm not friends with or pages I don't 'like'), but not others, even if they are fans of my page. It's weird though, in the tagging section of the privacy settings, there isn't an option to choose who can tag you, they only give you the option to review tags and choose who sees the tags. So I don't know why some people/pages can be tagged and not others. Facebook is weird...but it's free, so who am I to complain.

I also have it.. Only my own page name shows up. Or if I'm typing a tag, loads of names come up from people I'm not familiar with at all, and their names don't seem local so they are not attached to my fans or friends at all.

Quite stupid situation. Having a page and not being able to tag your customer's pictures ..

So the only thing I can do is add my facebook-link to my mail-footer and every now and then I tell the customers after the shoot that I will post some pictures on my facebook (and sometimes if they are nice people and coming-back-customers, I ask them if they would want to Like the page, even for a while, to help me a bit because I'm not exactly drowning in work)

^^^That works, but would it not be a tad rude and slightly bad for business? Lol..

I tried it with my personal page, that is 'fan' of my business page, also with my other personal page (cough um I just liked to play Bejeweled so much that I created another one) which is NOT a fan.

Both can tag the photos on the business page and then I can tag all my personal friends and also non-friends. So you have to ask people to tag themselves. At least that works.
