I've decided that I want to try to do outdoor portraits without strobes or reflectors to avoid having to carry so much equipment when going to locations that require a decent amount of walking and climbing around so I tried this natural light portrait of my friends while we were hiking.

Any CC is welcome, just trying to nail my exposure and post-process with natural light. Please don't CC posing/expression etc as this was just a candid.
First image is SOOC.

Were they posed? I am not sure I like him holding the cellphone. It tells a story that he rather be texting than enjoying her company. I do like the picture and processing otherwise.

Nah they weren't, we were just scaling the cliffs and we took a quick break so I pulled my camera out of my bag for a moment to take some candids. At the time he was trying to figure what to say to his boss to get out of work so we could stay later.

I'm sure......that looks really bad and it sends the exact message as stated above.

But then.....I hate cell phones in general. An unfortunate necessary evil.

I really like the processing on this. Was this shot in the morning? Very good lighting as well!

Ditto to what saea501 et al said. Also, her slacks are dirty, bad time of day (harsh light).
Looks like a spur of the moment picture, that technique rarely works.

PP looks good but ya the cell phone makes it appear he couldnt care less about her or the surroundings. Although it pretty much sums up alot of todays youngsters!

Yeah it was just a snapshot that I wanted to test my post-processing on. What technique are you referring to exactly?

Yep! I HATE cellphones, which is why I still have a "crappy" phone from 2008. The day my other half got an iPhone I think my overall attention level from her dropped significantly.

This was shot at 2pm in bright day light.

Spur of the moment without much thought or planning

Ah yeah. As I said in the original post, they weren't posed and this was just a snapshot. Just wanted CC on my post process.

LOL @ the responses in this thread. Despite the repeated attempts by the OP asking others to ignore the subjects and posing; that is what most people have commented on for no reason at all.

I really like your post processing work. You were really able to save a lot of detail from the background. If anything, I might boost the saturation just a tiny bit more. Oh, and I really hate the subject's pose. ;)
