I'm looking at buying a couple of these type clamp-on lights to add light for indoor use.

I was wondering if using just the everyday incandescent bulbs would be the best bet or would any of the new LED socket type bulbs be worth a try? Looking for opinions pro or con from anyone who may be using this type of setup. The pictures I'm taking will be on a black cloth background from approx. 6-8 ft. away. I'm just looking for more even lighting as I haven't had great luck with a single flash and I'd like to have enough ambient light to totally do away with the flash all together.
Thank you.

It will take a lot more light than you can get from those to light a subject sufficiently with constant lights. Reasonable exposures with hot lights mean thousands of watts.

Look on here for threads about DIY Kinoflo type florescent lights. There are also some videos on U Tube.

I did this for one shoot of my grandparents. Then Bought a continuous setup. Now I have studio strobes. Honestly I wish I saved the money and just bought strobes.

They are not as bright as you think they are. The miracle of the eye makes them seem bright, as they provide plenty of light for the eye to use. But they are quite dim as far as the camera is concerned. A fellow shooter here in town uses 8 of them and still cant go below 400 iso. And still has tons of blur.

Even when used from the distance mentioned you don't think it would be enough? I can't justify the expense of strobes as I only need this setup 2-3 times a year. Maybe just up the output and buy a couple of those 500w workplace halogen lights ???
Thanks.

I had 4x 85w CFLs (1200w equivalent) and couldn't get better than f/3.2, iso400, 1/40, and still had to do some exposure in post.
