I would suggest using LV manual focus as the baseline. That is as tack sharp your lens will get. LV-AF at best will match a correctly LV-MF. I find AF in live view as well as through the VF in larger incremental steps so in most cases it is blurrier than MF. 5Diii | 50D | 8-15L 4| 16-35L 2.8 II| 24-70L 2.8 II | 70-200L 2.8 IS II |Tamy 150-600 | Σ35Art 1.4 | 40 2.8 | Σ50Art 1.4 | 85L 1.2 II | 100 2.8 Macro | Helios 44-3 58mm f2.0 |Helios 40-1 85mm f1.5 | 1.4x & 2x teleconverters

MFA is for VF-AF only. LV autofocus uses a different system. So why does Reikan Focal suggest using Live View to calibrate ? I would need to see the context but as already mentioned it's probably to establish a baseline or the use of phase detection AF and then checked in LV. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

05Xrunner Goldmember, Flipflopper. More info | Mar 22, 2013 08:06 | #51 how is the lens at distance. I have had 3 copies of this lens 2 went for calibration and it always was pretty good in about 7feet and closer. its when you went to the 10feet and beyond the focus got all whacky. it would be hit or miss for no reason to completely miss focus at further distances. so check that as well My gear

I believe half the problem is the issue of the AF trying to lock on at 1.4 with such small DOF. I shot the same object in the same position etc using burst on my 1d mark ii and some shots definitely looked sharper than others (really need to do some tests outside in the daylight with my tripod).
