He won 1st place in some world famous photo contest but only managed to earn enough reputation for free gear. WTF? I would expect agencies lining up to hire him instead. I don't know. It is kind of depressing to say the least. From the hobbyist standpoint, great, you get free gear. From a professional standpoint, he is not getting a job offer!!!! One Imaging Photography

Without this recognition, attention and prize, he wouldn't even have gone to his next interview. I'm pretty sure if you speak to him, he'd tell you his life was handed back to him and it's okay that he didn't get a job offer (which we don't really know didn't happen). Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

The winning price money would only last him a month the most. You're looking at it from your point of view only. You have to be able to see things the way someone else would. We don't know that he wasn't offered a job. We don't know what the future holds. http://emjfotografi.com/

Nathan Can you repeat the question, please? More info | Mar 14, 2013 12:28 | #8 He could at least continue to freelance. That's a pretty hard thing to do when you've been forced to sell all your equipment. Without his prize, he probably would have needed to find another career path. Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

It gives me hope for humanity when I read things like that, thanks for posting the link. Not much hope for professional photography as a carreer, though. National Sarcasm Society. The fact that this type of story is "positive" is depressing. 3 lenses, backpack and a tripod. Jeez that's all you need for a photojournalist!
