Vello Extension Tubes

B&H photo has a sale of 20% off all Vello products. They have a new set off extension tubes. $55.19, no tax, free shipping. I have their FreeWave wireless remote, and its nice quality. I just ordered the tubes. Hope they will be similar quality.

Not much to extension tubes even if they are electronically connected between the body and lens. No optics just space and more space LOL

They arrived Saturday. I didn't have time to take any photos, but the quality seems nice. They attach and detach smoothly. They have metal plates, not plastic. So that puts them above a kit lens. Some other reviews I've seen said that some allowed flexing when a lens was attached. I'll be looking for that when I get a chance to test them more. But they look nice so far.

Ok, I've had a little more time to test them out and I'm happy with my purchase. I can't see any reason why I would want to shell out $100 more for Kenko tubes. Some of the sets I've seen for $80 I still have doubts about the quality. The only thing I noticed was that, as some have noticed with other sets, is that when you have all the tubes stacked together and a long lens at the end (I had my EF 100mm) there is very narrow gap that opens up at the top of some of the tube junctions. What I would suggest is that you use the 100's tripod ring so that all the weight isn't out in front of the camera body, but distributed at a more central fulcrum point. Vello seem to make decent quality products at very reasonable prices.

How do you know if these will fit your lenses? Are they sized or do they fit all lens sizes?

You buy the tubes that are for your camera . you can stack them as you wish for magnification.

You buy a set for Canon EF, it will fit every EOS body ever made from 1987-2013 and every EF/EF-S lens.

So how are these tubes when used with the 100 2.8 Macro lens?

I like mine.

Yes, that's what they do. They narrow the field of view. With a 100 macro lens which is 1:1 and all the tubes, you can get close to 2:1.
