I think you would flip on your head if you saw what you could do with the 6d at higher iso :)

I think a lot of people agree with you that ergonomics matters! I too felt the D600 and in a short time came to really hate the way it felt. We all see that you are on a collision course with a 5d3 ;)

Or 5D4, Depends on how long it takes for me to recover my "Nice thing" fund ;)

But yeah, I took a second look at the 6D after browsing the sample thread, The color and contrast of the shots and just the "look" the camera has was very appealing, Its not that my 7D doesnt produce excellent, poppy and punchy shots (Because it does) the 6D just appears to do so even better... and true, I wish I had the 6D the other day where I needed to go to ISO3200, ISO3200 and the lighting in the restaurant really messed with the color cast and the quality of my images unfortunately suffered a bit.. the 7D is good but it has limits unfortunately...

I've used the d600 a few times now. It felt solid. But so is the 6d. What absolutely turned me off as OP stated was the terrible ergonomics. Buttons strewn everywhere without logic. It drove me nuts and I was so happy to return it to its owner.
I do like its shutter sound. Actually Nikon shutter sound is very nice.

6d is better in terms of handling. But fall short from the 7d/5d series.

ISO was the main thing (other than price) that drove me towards the 6D. I rarely need to apply noise reduction at 3200. The 6D may have faults, but image quality isn't one of them :p

Interesting thread, Kenji. The 7D and I had an impromptu baptismal last week and I have been torn between a variety of choices of what I should do for a replacement.

The 6D uses the same batteries and I have not accumulated a plethora of LP-E6s as well as would allow me to stay in the canon system of lenses and get a much improved full frame sensor.

Or I could jump systems to Nikon with a D600 or D800, and pick up their very good zooms, but be left desiring on the prime side of things.

I'm quite intrigued by the rumors of an upcoming 7D mark II, and if its true, I'm hoping that the FPN is reduced over the current 7D, but I will need to see some RAW files to evaluate. In which case, if I wait for it or another product cycle on the 5D, perhaps it would be sufficient for me to pick up a T4i while I wait it out. Sure it doesn't have all the niceties of the 7D, but at least I've got all-cross-type af points and improved shadow noise at low iso.

...//...I wish I had the 6D the other day where I needed to go to ISO3200...//...

Kenji,

Two weeks ago I shot a concert where I hadn't been able to get to any of the rehearsals (VERY rare for me!), so I didn't know just how dark 'n' dismal the lighting and stage was.

But I'm so pleased I had the 6D because I had to shoot at ISO10,000(!) to get the performers' shots sharp! Just imagine that with a 7D...and you know I love my 7D as much as you.

This image is massively compressed (so ignore the crappy pixelation) but yep, ISO10,000!!!

Cheers,
Simon

Kenji mate!

.....
Looking through your Flickr, a very high percentage of what you shoot is your super-gorgeous dog, what you eat, what you drink, local cars and local flowers.

So why are you even looking at a new body?!

.....

Plus one. My Rebel will provide ISO3200 for content like this at easy. And for restaurant food I use iPhone.

You'll never be happy with a camera.

Do you have to come into every thread just to go "Blah blah blah Kenji is never happy" Because its starting to feel really personal man... I've said and repeated this a bajillion times and I'll say it again, I'm happy with plenty of things, I was considering adding a full frame camera, Not replacing my 7D... Yeesh dude.. I'm perfectly happy with a good 90% of my stuff and you focus on the 1 lens I simply wish was as good as the other lenses I owned :/

Or to reply another way, I've had my 7D for 4 years now, shot lots of images with it, constantly espoused how great of a camera it is and yet im not happy with it... /sarcasm

Anyways, Again, Yes, my recent stuff is nothing terribly special, 1. I've been playing with my 11-16 and Im not very good with it, i admit it, and 2. I've not been going out as much because theres just nothing to shoot right now except the same things I've shot prior... When the weather clears up there will be flowers and such for me to shoot my "real" subjects again

I dont like using my cell phone as a camera, and its got a pretty good camera for a phone... Just not comfortable doing so.. Id rather lug around my DSLR instead

Something I did notice on both cameras which still baffles me was the fact the viewfinder really didnt seem any larger than my 7D, I do not know why.. it didnt seem any "easier" to see through compared to the 7D.... I even double checked the stores 7D and really struggled to see a big meaningful difference... The viewfinders werent bad by any measure, But i was expecting something more I guess...

The 7D has a 1x viewfinder and the 6D a 0.71x. So a 1x APS-C viewfinder would equate to a 0.62x in full frame. That's not hugely different to 0.71x I suppose.
Large viewfinder for APS-C is one of the big advantages of the 7D.

This is only twice.

I'm honestly hoping you'll realize that you worry too much about the minutiae, and you need to lighten up and enjoy yourself. So maybe it is personal but I am not trying to attack you.

Lol I do enjoy myself, I'm sorry if it doesnt come across that way... I enjoy trying new things and experimenting... I did kinda come to the conclusion that my bokeh complaints are likely to be shared with any 35mm-ish lens (its just how they are) and that the 28mm is likely the best Im going to do for right now... Which is fine, its a great little lens and I DO genuinely like it, I just really wanted my Sigmalux except with a wider FoV

The way to achieve what I spoke of wanting(IE, my Sigmalux with a more practical FoV) is probubly to just get a FF camera and be done with it, The reason I keep bringing it up is that yes, its something I would use a lot for a lot of shooting... The problem with getting an FF camera is that a 5DIII is just out of reach for me at the moment so its better I hold off and wait... Maybe I'll nab a 5DII or a 1DsII at some point to play around with, But for now, the 7D is enough..especially with the insects and birds coming soon when I'll want the 8fps and pixel density

Sorry if i was a bit harsh and snappy at you
