Half Dome at Sunset

Each evening photographers gather at Sentinel Bridge in Yosemite Valley waiting for the sun to light up Half Dome. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. This was the most I could get on this trip. I tell you sometimes the light on Half Dome will blow you away!

Simply beautiful ... OK now for the question. In summer months , June especially how long before Sunset does one need to be there to secure a photo spot?

nice. I had sentinel bridge all to myself on a number of occasions on this recent trip (unlike previous visits). wasn't there for a sunset though. there's so many good spots to capture the sunset from it's hard to know where to choose. we went up to tunnel view for one of them.

I have only been to Yosemite in the recent years in winter time. Sentinel bridge usually has 3 or 4 tripod users there at sunset. It is not a big bridge so that 5 or 6 is probably the limit to get the perspective that you probably will want. Most photographers are friendly so some time sharing is probably possible. Pete is right, you will find so many neat places to be during the sunset that you will be more worried about where you want to be.
