I've noticed All of the manufacturers seem to be very proud of their new lenses.

Notice this isn't even a f/1.2..... Can we say "profit margin"? This lens seems to be marketed for a select few in the industry.

Hold on, that lens has the letters Z e i and two s's panted on. That increases the price quite a bit. Everyone knows that it costs manufacturers at leans $300 for a Z, $200 for the e and the i and $150 for each s. So, that adds $1000 just for those letters alone. Since Canon contains none of those letters, it will be about $1000 cheaper.

It might include the letters "I" and "S" though, which seem to command a $500 price tag.... :)

If that's just a rebadged Zeiss Planar, then it's got an all metal body and will last a lifetime. That said, I'll stick to my $300 Canon 50 1.4. Can even recall that last time I had it mounted.

Yup, pretty crazy price for a 50mm 1.4 considering all of Sony's competitors have a 50 1.4 under 500 bucks. And there's the Sigma too...

TO be fair, Sony also has a 50mm f1.4 under $500 bucks: http://www.adorama.com/ISO5014D.html (external link)

Oh jeez. Well this Zeiss had better be downright magical or I don't know why anyone would buy it.

I like how it says "just enjoy the video." Yeah, because that's about as close as I'll get to enjoying that lens with an estimated retail price of $4K. lol
