Wait! That was a 100% crop!!!
The original is like this

It was taken with a DP2M, with mediocre macro abilities...
Now that the DP3M has a 75mm (equiv) lens with 1:3 magnification, is the DP3M a macrographer's dream tool?
And who took the plunge already? :D (I don't mind being the first, there are some nice rebates in Hong Kong, and could be had for about USD750)
(I wet myself just thinking about using the DP3M + Raynox dcr 250)

I found it interesting, but it's neither compact, nor versatile, nor cheap enough to really be feasible as a walkaround macro for me. I'm more tempted to get a macro lens for my secondary kit, which is an E-PL5 (currently with 20mm 1.7 and 7.5mm fisheye). A panasonic 45mm or olympus 60mm macro is a bit more expensive, but it does do a full 1:1 macro, and with the 2xcrop that gets you some nice results.

Very cool shot...I like the cropped version, the pattern of bark sets off the pattern on the wings nicely.

I think it's reasonably small! But you're spot on with the lack of versatility...75 equiv 2.8 lens is embarrassing, too telephoto as an landscape lens, aperture too small for portraits. And over ISO200 the noise is just hideous!
IMO, m43 is not comparable in image quality, I use to use m43 for macro, I found it to be adequate, but apsc sensors are just one big step forward.
Hope that macro samples from the DP3M will appear soon, can't wait to see how well it does.

Thats why the Sigma Merrils are interesting, you need a 40MP+ bayer sensor to beat it!

I'm in the same boat. I fact I'm waiting for it to become available in the UK. Firstly it is not 'true macro' of course but who actually uses or needs 1:1 anyway? I take pictures of flowers, moths, beetles etc and the DP3M seems perfect to me. My DP2M can produce a pretty nice and detailed close up when cropped so I too am very excited by the DP3M.
Of course it's not versatile but that is so not the point! I have yet to come across another camera that produces files like a Merrill. Almost all of the detractors are people who have not actually used one. And 75mm no good for landscapes? I use 150mm and even 400 for landscape quite often.

Heres a peach flower taken with a DP2M:
