Well I got my 1D MK III this morning. Bought is used from B&H and I think I am broken on non 1D series now. The 1D just feels good in the hand.

Been spending the last couple of hours getting touch feely and fondling her mightily. Pushing all the right buttons.

I loved my 7D, it was a fantastic camera but the 1D III just feels right.

The one question I do have though, is the shutter on everyones that loud? This thing sounds like machine gun fire and I dont want to neighbor who is a vietnam vet. It sounds like I am laying down supressing fire in my backyard shooting 10FPS.

Cant wait to get some action shots. First races are next month.

Dying to get into the professional bodies....but I have to pay bills these days. Enjoy the 1D III. =]

It doesn't matter how big your camera is, it's how you use it!

I'd never even seen a 1D until my 1Dn came in the mail one day. They just seem right! I've got a feeling that the 7D II is going to have a built in grip.

It's been a while since I've heard the 7D, but I do believe the 1D III is louder. The 1 Series shutter/mirror assembly is really hard core beefy to handle that 10FPS with the larger sensor size. It gives a pretty commanding sound.

I find it solid sounding and I like it over the 7D shutter sound but I definitely like it more than the old shotgun sound and kickback of the 5D II Lol!

love my 1dIII, only thing I worry about is lack of megapixels at times. Looking forward to seeing what 7DII is like because I never liked my 7D files. Until then I will use my 1DIII

I know exactly what you mean...I had a 1D3 for a year and a half and it felt "right" and still "special" (yeah, I know, this is sounding very weird haha) every time I picked it up. Whoever designed the ergonomics for that camera better have gotten a massive bonus that year! ;)

I switched because it wasn't the right camera for me (now rocking a 5D2 I love and about to go mirrorless for travelling)...but man did I love the feel of that 1D!

1D3 and 1D4 have a very loud and distinctive 'CLACK' from the mirror. Something like the 5D3 is a bit quieter, and the quiet mode on the 5D3 is far and away quieter than what you get in 'quiet' mode on the 1D bodies. That's one thing I really do like about the 5D3.

There's a reason they've been nicknamed "the machine gun". ;)

I used to love the silent mode on the 1D3 and was disappointed that the 5D2 doesn't have a quiet mode, but then I discovered it has something better...Live View...turn that sucker on, and then take pictures...and enjoy the near-silence. ;)

Well I spent all night micro adjusting all my lenses. This camera is great in every way. The high iso 3200+ not so much, but I have the 5D MK iI for that.

The tracking is ridiculous on this thing. I wish I did not wait so long to get it. With this and the 5D II i feel like I can tackle any task at hand.

Yup one series sound totally different due to carbon fiber blades.

I really do love the 1D bodies, but I never use my 1D3. I had a pair of 1D2 bodies and they both got used a ton, then I got a 5D2 and I stopped using anything else. It's the right camera for me. I never shoot sports anymore, just landscape and walk around stuff.

I shoot landscape with my 1D Mark III and it's great for that. You'll find the files need a lot less pp compared to mid level cameras.

I don't lack its 10mp limit me at all Basically with the large size mp's you can print up to about the same size as the old Canon 5D 12mp.

I went through a deep analysis earlier this year as to whether I needed to upgrade to something like the 5D Mark III. After going deep into both camera systems my conclusion was that for now I didn't need more megapixels. What I need and use are the pro features that the 1D series has and that are absent on the 5D III. So, until I can afford another 1D camera I'm sticking with this one, for now and not letting its 10mp get in the way of my shooting landscapes.
