I just had to post a few more ALMS shots from Road America last summer. I've had it with this winter...more cold, more snow, more cold, more snow...no end in sight so I've been looking through last years racing shots and dreaming...

Nice shots! Time to get out of Wisconsin. Just don't come here- it's cold and rain, cold and rain.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I'm looking forward to be there this summer. What lens did you use on those shots?

Do you think a 70-200 is enough for the ALMS? Never been to RA.

I hope you enjoy it, it's a great venue...lots of walking though. They were all taken using any combination of a 40D, or 7D body, and either a 70-200 f2.8L, 300 f2.8L, or 100-400 L. That's pretty much what I take to anything there (and a wide angle for the paddock) and just use what looks right for where I'm shooting.

Do you think a 70-200 is enough for the ALMS? Never been to RA.

Should be good! in some spots, any longer than that cuts off parts of cars, you can get fairly close to the track. The part that sucks is trying to find good vantage points where there's no tall chain link fence in front of you. I wish I had over the wall access.

Thanks Chet! It's a great place to go, even if the racing's not good (and we know it always is) at least the brats are great:-) It's probably about an hour from Milw, I'm near Manitowoc and it's only about 40 min from us.

I own a couple of them, and circular polarizing filters too, but didn't use any on these, just a UV to keep the front element cleaner when the golf carts racing by behind me on the gravel path near turn 6 kick up the HUGE dust clouds. I tried the CP at the races a couple years ago, but got hit or miss results with rainbow effects in the headlight lenses and windshields, so I haven't tried it since.

What the shutter and aperture in the last shot ? 100-400L ?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you Ed, I've been away the past few days and couldn't access the images until now to check the data. Apparently the new Photobucket doesn't show Exif data anymore. Shot #8 was taken with the 7D using the 300 f2.8L IS lens. The settings were all manual, ISO 100, 1/320 sec., at f8.

Thanks Dana! I sooo much want to get some shots from the front straight towards the start/finish line or from turn one towards the line, but have not found any way possible with the fencing yet. We're hoping to make the Superbike doubleheader too this year, we just went for the practice day last year (scheduling conflict with the Manitowoc airshow) but this year the airshow is a different weekend from the bike race so we should be able to make both.

I'm a big Motorcycle fan and will be there for the whole thing. One day for photography and then to watch.
