Hey Guys,

Just checking to see if there is anything to look at. I got my 1D MK III used from B&H yesterday. Tested it, and it seemed ok. This morning I was prepping to go shoot on a hike.

The only thing I did from last night to this morning is charge the battery.

Now when you turn the camera on, everything looks ok, however when you press the shutter release button the mirror locks up and the camera goes into Err 80 mode.

You have to pull the battery, and then put it back in. When you put it back in and twist the lock close the mirror un locks until the next release of the shutter?

Any thoughts? I already contacted B&H but they are closed on Saturdays so I am waiting to hear back.

MIke

error 80 is apparently "Electronic control or image malfunction"
all you can reasonably do is check the battery's fully charged, try resetting all camera settings, try another memory card or try without the lens. I'd check the camera's firmware was current, but don't think that would cause that error - best have B&H return it.

there's some quite good info on error codes Here (external link)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Yep just got finished running through all of that.

1. Tried another battery

2. Tried another CF card and an SD card, and without a card.

3. The firmware was old, so I updated to V1.3.0.

4. Tried multiple lenses and no lens.

Did all of that in that order. Time to send it back. Oh well, it did make me fall in love with the 1D series though :)

B&H will take care of you. Good luck and don't give up on the 1DIII or B&H. :)

I feel your pain! At least you were able to shoot a few. I have had mine for the better part of a week and all I can do is hold it and make fast shutter noises. :)

I hope they take care of you quick!
