Tonight, I had a few O'dell Myrcenary IPAs and I began surfing for lenses.

The pungent floral smell and clean hop finish had me searching for an exceptionally clean piece of glass. The 24L's crisp character, combined with its ability to produce a stunningly sharp image, made this unyielding piece of glass a distinct standout amongst its peers. Its clean getaway sealed the deal and its sharp images produced a photograph unlike no other.

As it stands today, the 24L is a winner that provides a crisp and clean finish worthy of the highest attention of glass lovers around the world.

i'd be wary of surfing for lenses after a few IPA's ... that stuff is POTENT... might end up with a 17TSE and a new 24-70 mk 2 before I sobered up

This is exactly how I bought my 70-200 f/2.8L IS II.

After a few beers you can justify kick starting credit card debt.

Aaaaaand starting countdown for "oh sh!t, what have I done??!!" post in 6 hours 45 minutes and 27 seconds....6 hours 45 minutes and 26 seconds...6 hours 45 minutes and 25 seconds....

My clergyman dad held to the view that the sun was always over the yardarm in the Tibetan Navy. So here I am having a decadent Sunday morning, waiting for the Melbourne F1 GP on tv, with a glass of fine Glenfarclas.

And I suddenly realise that, for the same price, I could have bought a 40mm 2.8 pancake. But I quash that thought as a whim, since I'm already well-represented at 35 and 50.

Phew. Close call.

Just curious.... Is that because of how asinine my statement is? Or because you didn't think of it first? Kidding, partially.

My parents divorced when I was nine years old. My mom was very frugal, saved a ton of money, never spent a dime she didn't have to. My dad was a spender, if he had a dime, he found a use for it; sometimes good, not always. They both left this world around the age of 70. My mom died with a really large pile of money. My dad died with a really large pile of memories. I take my dad as the better example. I've been living a life-style I can't afford for almost 60 years. So far, so good.

I am approaching 60... I have lived in many exciting places (Miami, Berkeley, Houston, New York, Norway, Singapore, Athens) I have moved house 14 times, I have more experiences in any five-year span of my life than most people accumulate in a lifetime.

I own my house, my cars, my camera and lenses and my sailboat outright and never borrowed to acquire them. I am not rich, or have huge cash flows, I did things gradually and in cash.

Bottom line: You can have enriching experiences in life without a pile of cash. You can have a pile of cash without having experiences. Debt is not necessary... 5 engineering degrees between myself and my wife and good work ethic do help...

Two things. First, it seems we agree. Debt is not necessary. However, it can be a useful tool, if managed properly. I never said I was frivolous.

Second, I contend that you ARE sitting on a pile of money. If everything you own is paid for, what did you pay for it with? Your money is tied up in your home. I have about 50% equity in my home and decent retirement fund. To tie up liquid cash in a fixed asset like a home borders on the ridiculous to me. I can spend money, you can't spend your house. Yes, I realize that most people don't do it this way. I don't plan on leaving my children anything. They are quite capable of making their own way.

There is no difference between cash and toilet paper, until you try buying something.

Most of my camera and lens purchases are from being intoxicated. It's dangerous having wifi on your phones in one hand, and a drink in the other.

Just don't change your mind until you use it. I did the same with my TS-E - it was the closest I got to an impulse buy, but after only a few days of using it I was pretty relaxed about the decision.

Of course since you spent $2k on a lens it's probably only fitting to celebrate with a really decent 20+ yo scotch.

...Well I had Lens purchase Freakout today when i woke up.. fortunately it was too late to cancel and I'm now in that relaxed state you mention and looking forward to its arrival.
