Travel expenses/fee advise need it.

Hi guys,

I've been contacted by a PR agency that wants me to go and do still's and video for a press event in Amsterdam. They say that will pay for my tickets and hotel and in this case I was wondering should I charge anything for my time of traveling. I've seen some photographers are charging something like 50p per mile but I'm not sure if this is in case when they need to drive to the location and they need to cover the fuel cost etc. or it's just for their time.
Any comments and advice are appreciated.

As a consultant, I am generally paid half my usual hourly rate for traveling. You can start with that idea, figure out your typical hourly rate, and request travel time. After all, while you're traveling you can't work for any other clients.

Charge for travel time and also book your own flight and hotel. That way you can get the comfortable rest you want and a quick flight with minimal layover time.

I work on a day rate and generally charge 50% of my shooting rate for travel time. Additionally, I charge for all of my associated travel expenses.
