One of the things I love about wildlife photography is that, no matter how hard you plan, ultimately, it's the subject that's in control and, no matter how prepared you are, they can often catch you out.
This Osprey almost did exactly this. Having spent many days following several of them around, only to find that they were decidedly camera shy, this chap obviously decided to just test how ready I would be if he gave me the op for a shot that I was wholly not expecting.
Accordingly, having sat doing nothing for a number of hours, his mate took off and flew away from me and I opted to track that one (hoping it may swing around) but, whilst tracking it in frame, I decided to swing back to the other guy who I expected to be still perched. Not so, I caught him coming at me, seemingly having sent his mate off to dummy me. Moreover, he also decided that as I was using a fixed focal length lens he would come so close that by the time I had fully acquired him there was no way I could get all of him in the frame.
The result is the shot below, which I'm pretty happy to have got considering I was not at all prepared for him coming fast at me like this (being that I was watching the other guy).
Anyhow, sorry about the huge into
C&C most welcome as always. Many thanks for looking.
