I've notice 42nd street photo offering a deal with a steep discount for a 1Dx which they claim as a Brand New with US Warranty.

Its been awhile since I bought from them. Are there any issues I should know about from them?

Would like to hear from others.

That's really sad. Back in the day, they were one of the "go to" mail order photo stores.

I think you are thinking of 47th Street Photo. Not 42nd St Photo.

Just had to double check to make sure I didn't read it wrong. It is indeed 42nd Street.

The original 47th Street Photo went out of business many years ago. Great place to buy photo equipment as long as you knew exactly what you wanted. It was always jammed with customers and they spared all expense on customer amenities. Basically a counter -- you told them what you want, they got it from stock, and you paid. Little if anything on display. But great prices!

Likely gray market. "US Warranty" does not mean a Canon warranty!

When there is B&H and Adorama, why go anywhere else?

Try to avoid, if you dare to buy from them watch for the 'Bait and Switch'. Speaking from previous experience a few years ago from a different camera online store.

Frankly I was not very familiar with 42nd Street Photo, but it seems like they're trying to cash in on the name of the defunct 47th St Photo. Judging from what I've read and seen with my own eyes, this store is geared more to the tourist trade or the less knowledgeable New Yorker. Out-of-towners who may have fewer options for these items back home may think they're getting a great deal because their own small local shops charge close to list price for similar items. Lots of leather, jewelry and electronics shops in midtown go after the tourist dollars. New Yorkers generally avoid those places. I'm guessing they may not even be an authorized dealer for most of the products they sell. If that's true, any US manufacturers warranty they give you might not be valid.
