Hi,

So, it looks like I'll be taking a big trip within a month or two and I really want to get a 5d3 / 24-104 kit before then. Problem is, I noticed the prices now (~$3480 after rebates) are a bit higher than they used to be a few months ago (guess they were down to ~$3200-3300?)

I know they have the rebates will be ending after this month--do you guys think I should buy now then or perhaps wait for lower prices next month?

Also, it appears that buydig, bh, and adorama all have the same price right now, ~$3480. Anyone know of another online retailer that's a canon authorized dealer offering cheaper?

Thanks! :)

$3480 seems to be the going price these days. If you call B&H or Adorama, they will probably throw in a Sandisk Extreme CF card and/or an Adobe package that includes Photoshop Elements. Pretty good deal IMO.

I think the best price I ever see for the bundle was $3300 on black friday. Make the purchase with a credit card has price protection. I filed two claims for 5d3 and 6d recently, they both went though with no question asked.

Don't forget to factor in that your going to need some honeymoon time with your camera to get used to settings and configuring it to your needs. It might be worth the few extra bucks to get some time to familiarize with it. (I know i would comming from just a 5Dc)

I've used this site in the past to track prices. It might help you find a deal.

Agreed, it is nice to go use a new camera for a week or so before you have any pressure, so you can work the differences on it into your brain.

Just make sure you get your gear insured! I just got back from a 2 week Thailand trip, almost lost all my filters twice, and my Canon 17-40 came back waterlogged! I'm really happy I got an umbrella policy for my camera gear before I left!

This is great advice. If you are going to buy the kit anyway, possibly spending an extra $100 now in order to have time to play around with all of the settings is the best deal that you will find. Now get it and enjoy it!

I have a few questions. How much did you pay? Who covers that? What is the deductible? And, was it easy for you to file the claim and got approved?

thanks, but that's for the body alone. getting the kit = $3490.

fyi, since the kit is only ~$500 more and that lens sells for $700-800 used, well the choice is a no-brainer :).

also, i guess i should mention, i'm in CA. so Amazon and other retailers with nexus' in CA will charge tax.

.......... guess i'm pulling the trigger tonight.......

update: GOT IT! :) (and a 16-35 2.8 lens.....)

one tip for those buying from Adorama: the body alone is listed saying it includes a memory card as a gift, but the kit does not. however, on the left of the listing of the kit you will see a link for savings if buying other items. it turns out that if you click it you will get the option to add a sandisk card and an adobe elements/premier package for $1. i missed that the last 10 times i looked at the prices.

so poor now.... but happy!
