I have been to some training on counterfeiting in my industry and was amazed at the level of skill counterfeiters have risen to. Amazingly enough sometimes the tell tale sign is that the product looks to good. Many vendors have counterfeit help on their sites and I recently found Canon has done the same. Interesting read.

Hah yeah, mine does too. Mine is from B&H so I don't think authenticity is a problem. It looks more like a "this is from Japan, this is for Western countries" label difference actually.

i concur...

all of my batteries purchased from authorized dealer or in camera box have english writing on the decal but the blue portion looks like the one with oriental (japanese/chinese) writing...

Hmmm. Looked at both my LP-E6s and one looks just like the Canon original and the other like the counterfeit. One camera was purchased at Adorama and the other at B&H. Not sure which battery camera with witch. In either case, both are 4 years old not and both are still working great.

The one came with my 7D and one more I purchased (4 years ago) looks like counterfeit.. :(

The one came with my 5D3 ( 3 months ago) is not even close to both.. :(

So Canon themselves are putting counterfeit batteries with their cameras?

It's minor stuff, I would be willing to bet they're authentic. I'll try to post pics tomorrow.

LOL ... just checked and mine, that came from Canon, both look like the counterfeit ones they have depicted.

Funny, the one that came with my 7D looks like the counterfeit too.
The couple counterfeit ones off E-Bay I've seen look more like the Genuine: LP-E6
And the really silly part, is they last longer than the Genuine: LP-E6 :-P

I looked closer to the pictures and noticed one difference between the one battery that looks like the counterfeit. In the lower left corner there is a small square area where my camera has some 4 letter code stamped. The picture shows it as blank. Mine is not blank. Otherwise it is identical to the counterfeit picture.

It would be best to send me all your potentially fake OEM batteries for safe disposal. :)

I just got a letter from Canon about a battery I bought on Amazon that says it may be counterfeit. I will take photos of both and post then side by side.
