Yes, thanks for asking. It was a combination of technique and processing that was my undoing. The lens is fine.

this is just chat but am I right that I have read that the 50 1.4 is soft at 1.4 and better at f/2?

seems to me that one may as well buy the 50 1.8 which is - although a cheap build - 'sharp' at f/1.8...

I am looking for a sharp 50 1.8 but better build AND "affordable"

if that equates to a new 50 1.8 Is.... cool!

It was night and day for me between the 50mm 1.8 vII and the 50mm 1.4 lens. The 1.8 focus was always horribly hit or miss, noisy and slow. When it did connect it was great and excellent value for the money, but it got annoying. I picked up the 1.4 on a deal and I have been very happy with it.

Maybe I just got a good copy but I haven't noticed mine being soft the few times I have shot at 1.4, it still blows me away how sharp it typically is compared to my other lenses. (Granted I don't have much)

As far as between the 1.4 and the 1.8 I think it all depends on which lens it intends to replace and how much it is. Looks very interesting though.

I had my school disco shoot on Monday and it went really well and was a great buzz. I shot 180 pupils in 3hours all high key. Here is one very very fast edit and pretty much straight from camera.

haha. Nah, I got a decent job and got out of Kentucky! Making more than I made in Houston, when I left there. I'll only have 3 lenses, so I want them to be keepers.

Glad you figured it out :) I guess some of the problem is that the word 'sharp' is pretty subjective, with regards to photographs. Not everyone has great vision (mine sucks) and/or view things on differently calibrated/different quality monitors in differently lit rooms...etc... You can see that one person's idea of 'sharp' could look OOF to another haha!

Enjoy the lens!
