....One time i have these girls who wanted some pics of them with their JS prom gowns. Because they were friends daughters, i just told them not to pay for the session, just order prints from my website. So i posted the pics to my fb for them to see. All i got were praises of how great and happy they are with the pics. Guess what? None of them orders.... I gave it a week in my fb then deleted it. Lesson learned.

ditto for a prom... did it for a friend so shot 100+ of her daughter and her friends - free - and posted it all on FB with watermarks. Next thing everyone is sharing them and poof - bye income. That was two yrs ago and I did it as a favour but good lesson... plaster images with a watermark - or - only make it like 350 pixels long

FB has splattered photos on the internet like nothing else and the value of a photo has so little value to people now because as they say 'everyone is a photographer' now...

If we want to make money we have to show how our photos/images are so much different than "snap-shots"... I think there is a market if you can shoot women and you are good at photoshop... so so so many women are always snapping photos of themselves (look on typical FB profile picture albums) but you can instantly see the difference from when a pro takes the shot.

This is a true statement for sure! And every momtographer has a dslr. Heck, even the teens have them. The shoot I did with the 13 yo girl, the mom brought along a family friend who was a "photographer". He was all of 15. And just because folks "like" your pics doesn't mean it is even any good. Just look at what else gets a ton of "likes" ...dark blurry pics that are often barely discernible.

My pics will not go on fb until they have either purchased the file or prints cuz once they're out there, they're no longer going to provide a sale. People will just print what they copy from fb if they happen to want a print. Not many realize the difference in a quality print.

Yes  out of focus - noisy - blurry snapshots... that is what the masses settle for until they are cornered and see a real photo...

There's still quite a few people who wants it framed. This is one example. But i agree with you.

That's why i'm charging for my time now. One time i have these girls who wanted some pics of them with their JS prom gowns.

Yeah, they loved the pics, that they were right clicking "save picture as" and then printing off themselves, or just updating their facebook with your shot.

Oh yes, the joke of "this phone's camera is like an SLR". Riiiight. Apple trying to compare the iSight camera "look at the aperture, most SLR lenses don't have this, and our IR filter is like an SLR" is a joke. I have an iPhone 5, and the camera sucks. The "flash" is an insult to light itself. I also played with a Nokia 928 for work, and the camera is better, but still not fantastic.

A phone camera MIGHT replace a very cheap point and shoot set to full Auto. My S100 blows them away, and my 60D makes them look like the toys they are. The biggest thing is control. If I can't control the camera and tell it what tradeoffs I want to get the shot to come out, it will always just be a toy and I'll have blurred subjects due to low shutter speed, or noise due to high ISO on a static subject.

Ack...that doesn't sound good. Florida?

I had a shipment of coffee beans go to the wrong address, once. But that was the seller's goof.

The force of Mickey is strong here in Florida. I, however, am not a fan.

Man you are tearing it up with that SL1. I hope the 70D lives up to the hype...

Right above the frog's head did you remove something?
