Nice Stro... Almost a 3D effect! The 17-50 rocks! I've been struggling with my 18-200 (we were showing Houston to some friends from Norway, so I didn't feel comfortable lugging my backpack with all my arsenal...

Thanks Mak. I think I've been leaning on the contrast too much, lately. Still trying to get used to using my 40inch for editing again after being forced to use the laptop for about 4 months. Really like your last shot.

The photos above are not too pushed.

One method I find useful for setting contrast is to do it in Levels.

If you set the range in Levels so that the blacks and the whites barely touch the limits of the histogram, the contrast is ok.

Then, if I want more/less light in the photo, I play with the Gamma. Lifting the shadows in Darktable can only help for small changes. Then it becomes unrealistic, so I don't use it.

Never really tried using levels for that. Might give it a shot, on my next batch.
