It was just yesterday that I noticed my 17-50mm non vc lens zoom feel sticky when zooming. I have not dropped it or banged it.

The zoom ring goes way beyond the numbered markings. I need to manually zoom the lens. In short it is in bad shape.

It is from "grey market" so i cannot claim warranty. Do i have a choice to have it repaired? or should i just get a used one?

I've never bought a lens from the grey market but don't Tamron lenses come with a 6 year warranty. Mine did.

Yes they do have 6 year warranty. But I don't have a receipt for it. And even if I have the receipt, it has to come from an authorized seller. I bought mine I think in eBay...

Just to update this thread.

I ended up sending my lens to Tamron. I was charged $159 for everything including the signature confirmation. It was well worth it!

Here is what they did:

Symptoms: D
Z
L
Serial Number:******
DUST OR DEBRIS INSIDE LENS
ZOOM IS DAMAGED OR INOPERABLE
LOOSE OR MISSING PARTS.
Repairs: POP THIS REPAIR WILL BE AT NO CHARGE IF YOU HAVE A VALID RECEIPT
D DISASSEMBLE AND CLEAN ENTIRE LENS.
Z ADJUST/ LUBRICATE ZOOM & REPLACE ANY BROKEN PARTS.
L TIGHTEN LOOSE PARTS; REPLACE MISSING PARTS.
2 TURNAROUND TIME APPROX 3 BUSINESS DAYS 800-827-8880

Sent it March 23 and I got it April 2nd.

It was bought in the grey market (ebay) and It was not warrantied. So i had to pay. But I am glad I didnt just jump the gun and bought a new one. It is good as new now!

Hope anyone with this problem gets to solve theirs!

Glad to know Tamron's customer service/support stands up to the standards we all expect of lens makers.
