Thanks Peter

Wow! You go with center point focusing...I can't even reliably keep the bird on the focus point with center point expansion. woe is me. :(

You use aperture priority mode? How do you keep your shutter speed up? In Av doesn't the ss vary?

I use Tv shutter priority and set the ss to 1/1000 or 1/1250.

I've never tried EC...I'll definitely give it a try next time I go.

Took up photography a few months ago when I enrolled in a part time basic photography evening course. Been lurking around here for a while admiring everyones work and thought I'd post my first attempt at a long exposure shot.

I'll take that as a compliment thanks, but it is. Just managed to find a dealer with a stock of Lee big stoppers (on back order again now) and went out to try it at the weekend. Took me about 90 minutes to get this one shot as I was struggling to get the right exposure time. Slipped in, got wet feet but I was pleased with the result in the end.

My Custom settings Paul
C1. 1/1250, f8.0, ISO auto, M mode, Center point focus, Evaluative metering, Ai servo
and High burst rate.
C2. f/5.6, ISO 400, Av mode, Center point focus, spot metering, +1/3 EC, AI servo
and high burst rate.
C3. 1/1000, ISO auto, Tv mode, Center point focus, spot metering, +2/3 EC, AI servo and High burst mode.

I shoot RAW, AWB and S (standard picture style) for my customs setting before I always use C2 for both BIF and perch birds. But lately I've been trying C1. For bright background I use C2 and C3.

How do you find auto iso? Do you ever find that it goes up to unacceptable levels? I try to stay below 800.

Where are you selecting EC from? Back lcd on the camera, or a menu item? I've never used it. I always thought it only pertained to flash use. :o
