Hi all,
I just received my Phottix Odin/2 receiver kit today for my 5D3, along with my second 430EXII speedlite. I love this so much more than connecting with an OCF cable. With that said, I was having a little trouble figuring a few things out. I notice that when everything is hooked up, it seems you can control your flashes from either the TCU on top of the camera, which works pretty much as expected, OR from the menu of the 5D3 flash settings. Adjusting power, exposure comp, A/B ratios, all of that worked while in ETTL mode when I change things from the camera. However, when I try to change the flashes to Manual mode from my 5D3 menu, it doesnt seem to work, it just stays in ETTL mode. In addition, when I set the flashes to manual mode from the TCU, it doesn't seem there is any way to adjust the power from the 5D3, only the TCU. Ideally, I would like to be able to adjust everything from the 5D3, even while in full manual mode as it seems faster to me that way.

Am I missing something, or is this not possible with the Phottix Odin? Do you have to control everything from the TCU in manual mode?

Thanks for any help you can give

Hmm...I only do it on the TCU. I can't imagine why i'd want to go through the camera menu when the TCU is so much easier. I can will try in a second though.

Edit: Just tried and it seems to be a no go.

Thanks for responding. So my TCU/Camera isnt misbehaving, it's just not possible to control via camera it sounds like?

With that said, I'm not dead set on not using the TCU to control, I just got these and until this point I've been used to controlling via the camera since I've been using a sync cable. I can certainly use the TCU instead. Is that how most Phottix Odin users handle changing the various settings/flash power?

From the Odin Manual:

"Notes on camera LCD and Menu

When using the Phottix Odin TCU and Receiver make
sure wireless flash functions are not selected on the
camera menus. The Odin overrides certain Canon
wireless flash functions, enabling and changing option
on the camera may limit use of second certain sync and
flash zoom functions. For best performance do not make
changes to functions in the camera flash menus."
