Bag for 7D with Extended 70-200 mounted.

Since I got my 70-200 2.8 II, I have been enjoying trying to catch some wild life shots. I have 2 different sessions where I found deer, and I know we have wild turkeys around here too. Of course, birds.

However, my problem is when I am driving around and see some wild life, they tend to take off before I can assemble my lens on my 7D, because my bag situation doesn't allow me to carry the 70-200 mounted to the camera.

In addition to that, I have a 2x Canon TC coming today, so what I need is a bag that will hold the 7D, extender, and 70-200 mounted and ready to go.

I don't need the bag to hold anything else since I will still carry the bag I now have to hold my spare camera and other lenses.

Any suggestions on a bag like that?

I use a REI stuff sack / back pack. Its light and easy to open, no padding though. When I am not hiking I use a Cabela's canvas tackle bag. I use the REI bag in the area you live....we own a vacation home in Sevierville. I'll be hiking there Easter weekend with it and my 7d with 28-300L attached.

I use a ThinkTank Digital Holster 50 for my 7D/70-200 f/2.8. It might be a little tight with the extender but it has a pop-down section at the bottom that has enough room for a hood in shooting position so that would give you more than enough room. One thing to note is the pop-down section is not padded when extended.

If you don't plan on using a gripped body look at the Digital Holster 30.

I've been using a CottonCarrier with my 7D and 70-200 2.8 or 300 f4 when riding a 4 wheeler. Works very well for me.

I have the Canon Deluxe Photo Backpack. I keep the 70-200 mounted, but not the 2xTC. It would fit completely assembled, I keep the TC in the space below the lens.

My criteria was a bag that was the configuration where you could have the 70-200 2.8 II + 2x extender mounted to the 7D in the bag. I want to be able to pull it out of the bag and immediately start shooting wild life before it can run or fly away.

I looked at the Think Tank Retrospective 20 and it doesn't look like you could store those mounted.

If I am wrong, please tell me.

Think Tank Urban Disguise 35 V2. I picked one up from a fellow POTN member and it has worked very well. It is a tall bag, specifically designed to carry a body with a long lens like the 70-200 or the 100-400 attached. I can carry my 7D with the 100-400 attached (with the hood reversed) and still have room for two smaller lenses like a 10-22 or 17-55 on the side. It also has a pouch in the back for a laptop, although I haven't tried to load it all up that way and test if I can still lift it comfortably.

I use the 5D3 70-200 II extender III 2x combination quit often with the retrospective. Best thing to do go to a shop en test it your self

Well, I got the "ThinkTank Digital Holster 50" today. It is a very nice bag. However, with my 70-200, 2x extender both mounted to the 7D, it is very hard to zip up. It does work, but very, very tight. Of course, I have my hood turned backwards to make it work.
Really, it needs to be about 1.5 inches longer for that configuration.

However, with a little tucking here and there, I can get it zipped, so I am OK with it. It is very nice to be able to quickly get my long distance rig into action before the wild life can run or fly away.
